There are a wide range of groups, clubs, and charities in Brighton and Hove that offer many different types of activities to ensure you never get bored. Brighton even has it’s own Old People’s Day:

Old Peoples Day hosts a wide variety of special events across the city every year. It is a celebration of the contribution older people make to society.

Sport and Exercise for Older People in Brighton & Hove

Badminton

Table Tennis

Tai Chi

The 50+ Tai Chi Group in East Brighton won an Active for Life Participation Award from Brighton & Hove City Council in 2012. There is a Whitehawk class at Walter May and one in Kemptown at Evelyn Glennie Court on Somerset Street. Both classes are followed by tea and cake. Walking Football

No running or jogging allowed! Walking football is designed for those over fifty who want to keep stress off their joints. Matches are played at Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre in Brighton. Yoga

Yoga is a great activity for any age, improving both mental and physical well-being, balance and mobility, and can also help reduce pain. CAMEO in Hove

CAMEO (Come And Meet Each Other) takes place at the Bishop Hannington Church Centre on Neville Avenue in Hove. The group has been running for over 30 years and consists of meet-ups and varied events, from quizzes to guest speakers, for the over 50s. Walk and Talk Meet-up

Worthing Walk and Talk MeetUp takes place during weekdays, and the social walks on the edge of Brighton or Worthing last 2.5 hours. Lifts are organised to walks from Worthing and Brighton, and from a nearby station. For more information visit their website

Learning Opportunities for Older People in Brighton & Hove

LifeLines

Lifelines organises activities for the over 50’s based at Patching Lodge and around East Brighton. From Nintendo Wii games and chess, creative writing and dance tuition to meditation, language classes and help groups lead by a counsellor to help those coming to terms with loss, there are plenty of activities to choose from.

University of 3rd Age

The U3A is a learning co-operative which aims to help you share your knowledge, experience and talents with others and learn from them in friendly surroundings. The wide range of events and activities include barn dancing, wine appreciation and French conversation. They also offer away days and trips to many events and attractions. Radio for Older People in Brighton & Hove

Grey Matters Production

Grey Matters Productions make a radio show with programmes aimed at older people. It was set up by the Brighton & Hove Older People’s Council and is broadcast on RadioReverb (97.2 VHF/FM in Brighton and Hove and at www.radioreverb.com). There are roles for anyone who wants to get involved as interviewers and presenters. Or you could work behind the scenes learning to operate the various pieces of equipment or editing the shows.
