More groups for the elderly in the Bradford area

Bradford Buddy Scheme

Bradford Council Adults Services Health & Wellbeing Department have commissioned Age UK Bradford District and Mencap, (not for profit organisations), to provide a Bradford District Buddy Scheme.

The scheme pairs buddies with an older person who shares the same interests or hobbies, so they can go out and do things that interest them together as friends, enabling older people to form friendship groups based around shared interests, skills, hobbies.

Over 55's activities

The Bierley Community Centre's OPALS programme is for the over 55's and provides opportunities for individuals to keep active, be creative, make friends and enjoy life. The OPAL programme benefits members through social interaction, healthy eating, fun & entertainment, learning new skills and trips to various locations.

9.30 - 11am Public living Room - have a cuppa and catch up with other OPAL's. This is a free session.

11am - 12 noon Reminiscing; A small group for over 55's all welcome. The group has members that may have neurological conditions such as dementia, (carers are welcome), to share stories of the old days. This is a free session.

OPALS Lunch 12 - 1pm - join us for a 4 course traditional home cook meal for just £6.

Friday Friends 1pm - 3pm - this is a welcome space to catch up with friends. We have a drinks trolley and provide crafts and activities, board games, quiz sessions and prize bingo. This is a free session but we ask for a contribution towards crafts.

Monday Motivation - 10.30am – 1.30pm at Bradford Mechanics Institute Library, 76 Kirkgate, BD1 1SZ - a group led activity followed by lunch and a 'wind down' activity where you can relax and unwind. £5 per person per session.

Tasty Chewsday - 10.30am – 1.30pm at St Mary’s Church Community Hall, Wyke - meet and socialise with friends and share a meal. £10 per person per session.

Dementia Friendly Wellbeing Cafe - held on the last Friday of every month at 11am - 1pm at St.Mary's Church Community Hall, Wyke. All over 60 are welcome, carers are also welcome. Refreshments, lunch, a raffle and live entertainment every month. £5 per person per session.

For those unable to get out of the house for any reason, there is a befriending service where a trained volunteer offers friendship and help.

Meet and chat sessions are held during the week, with art and craft activities and memory lane events at various venues around the Bradford District.
